At Ten Eleven Ventures, we specialize in cybersecurity investments, focusing on the intersection of new technologies and their secure deployment. Right now, few areas sit more squarely at that intersection than agentic AI, and we think that risk and trust operations — including fraud investigations, business investigations, enhanced due diligence, know-your-customer workflows, and know-your-business workflows — are becoming among the next most impactful spaces to deploy these powerful capabilities, with a large potential market of over $200Bn between various risk and trust use cases.
In the risk investigation space, agentic AI companies can own a long-lived workflow and build a real “specialization of labor” with deep data integrations, an understanding of the company's decision history, and a compounding skill base that competitors can’t replicate. There is potential to improve efficiency and effectiveness in a critical company process, enabling a greater number of more thorough reviews, leading to safer processes for businesses and consumers. Overall, these are high-stakes workflows that require robust organizational context, the ability to reference multiple data sources, and a historical understanding of internal decision-making.
Doing this right — with proper guardrails and safety — is vital. As cybersecurity investors, we know that technology deployed without strict security is a liability. We support founders dedicated to building secure products, with designs and infrastructure suited to the most demanding enterprises.
That is why we are so thrilled to lead today’s Series A investment in Variance.
Behind Variance is an incredible team that has already achieved success in building a tremendous product that consistently delivers high accuracy, precision, and recall, delighting its risk and compliance customers. The company already processes more than 70 million context signals per day and executes approximately 300,000 automated enforcement actions across customer environments. The company has grown revenue 4x over the past year, serving 11+ enterprise customers with a team of ten. At the core of Variance is a proprietary context engine that enables AI agents to completely model and replicate any investigative workflow, incorporating historical investigations, business metadata, and entity relationships. The Variance product is a deeply integrated system that connects cases, context, and public data into an intelligence layer, surfaces threats by linking behavioral signals across disparate data streams, and then deploys investigation and enforcement agents to identify risks, defend policies, and develop new procedures.
Furthermore, as Variance has scaled to serve financial institutions and Fortune 500 enterprises, it has made security and auditability central to the product. The platform requires agents to cite the basis for every decision and performs real-time validation on those traces, making outcomes traceable, reviewable, and defensible in high-stakes environments. The platform is committed to meeting best-in-class trust and compliance standards, including SOC Type II, ISO 27001, PCI, and is among the first companies in this space to have its AI guardrails audited against emerging agentic standards such as AIUC. Today, Variance offers a full on-premises (air gapped) deployment option alongside major security and data segregation features — making it one of the most secure AI agent vendors in the market.
Great technology companies are created by entrepreneurs who recognize an inflection point in technology that enables them to build something genuinely new. Doing it while understanding that security and safety can be an accelerant is a powerful addition to this mentality. The Variance team is such a team, building bravely and safely into such a moment. Karine and her co-founder, Michael Lin, met at Apple's Fraud Engineering and Algorithmic Risk team. What impresses us so much about this team is not just the state they are in today, but the qualities that have enabled them to get there. This is a team that understands its customers thoroughly, takes the time to deeply understand the market from both a competitive and a technical lens, adjusts when needed, and puts those insights together to develop a strategic and product approach that is differentiated and superior to alternatives.
Ten Eleven Ventures led the round, with participation from 645 Ventures, Y Combinator, Urban Innovation Fund, and Okta Ventures — all early investors eager to support the company's next chapter. We’re honored to support Karine, Michael, and the Variance team as they build a category-defining company.
